I thought this at first myself. Having it be live for the public, as an event, seems to be feeding a bloodlust that noone wants to grow.
Then I went back, and watched the video again, and Pete said several things that makes me think it won't happen that way. Any access by the public will be delayed, and edited, or obscurred in some manner, perhaps even a Ken Burns effect slideshow, as we've seen released in the past.
The military on base will likely be the only ones seeing it live, because, we don't get live video from inside military bases now, do we ?

I don't think you would understand the consequence of murdering thirteen people as well if you just read about it. That message is conveyed more clearly with sound and video. It's an important message.
